Since the incident occurred mid-air, the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Thursday said it was looking into allegations that Pitt assaulted 15-year-old Maddox, but law enforcement sources told TMZ it's "highly unlikely" anything will come from the probe.
Pitt is accused of being "verbally abusive" and getting "physical" with his 15-year-old son Madox, while he and his wife Angelina Jolie were returning from France to their home in Los Angeles on a private plane on September 14, the People Magazine reported.
An LAPD spokesman denied reports that his department was investigating the actor, telling the news outlets they "are not investigating any case, nor do we have any allegations against Mr. Pitt".
Fox News reported that the FBI is now conducting investigation on this child abuse allegation. Here, a cheat sheet of sorts to catch you up on everything that's happened so far.
Meanwhile Us Weekly reports that Pitt got drunk on the flight from Nice, France (near their Chateau Miraval estate), to Burbank, California, and was fighting with Jolie.
Brad's "incident" was with Maddox. A source told the magazine that Maddox stepped in to defend his mom and got in his dad's face. Brad then allegedly "connected in some fashion" with Maddox.
While Jolie cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason of her decision that shocked the world, sources close to the power couple mentioned that the "Malefecient" star became "fed up" with Pitt's use of weed and possibly alcohol, and "an anger problem".
The close family source, who wasn't present at the plane incident, says that like most married couples, Pitt and Jolie would at times argue about what they thought was best for the kids, but that Pitt was never angry or mean towards the children. He did not do that; he is emphatic about that. "He put his hands on him, yes, because the confrontation was nose-to-nose and was spiraling out of control".
Maddox was adopted by Angelina from Cambodia when he was only a few months old in 2002 and Brad, who started dating Angelina a few years later, adopted him in 2006.
A source claims Brad has always been supportive of Angelina's personal charity work, but it was increasingly an issue the past several years that she was so keen on bringing the kids along, too.
