Buffalo (2-2) has won two straight and won at New England for just the second time in 16 trips. Not the other way around.
It was Buffalo's second win in its last 16 visits to Foxborough.
My point is that the New England Patriots have proven that they are good enough to win without key players and next Sunday, two key players will be back from suspension.
To be sure, the Patriots are without their Hall-of-Fame-bound quarterback, Tom Brady, whose 4-game NFL "Deflategate" suspension ended Sunday.
"He's a third-string quarterback, so for us, it was, 'We've got to make him look like a third-string quarterback", Zach Brown said.
And, in fairness, Brissett, in a 27-0 win over Houston, injured the thumb on his throwing hand leading to major speculation whether he, Garoppolo or wide receiver and former college QB Julian Edelman would start.
"We just didn't have a very good day today", said New England coach Bill Belichick. "I don't know. I just did what I thought was best at that particular time". When all was said and done, the Bills had pitched their first road shutout since 1990 and had handed New England the first whitewashing at home in 23 seasons. "We'll never make up for that 0-2 start but we're just going to keep taking that dirt off of us".
LeSean McCoy ran for 70 yards and was heavily involved in the passing game, with six catches for 38 yards. It definitely wasn't an ideal game by any means.
Taylor and McCoy hooked up for a seven-yard touchdown play, completing a 12-play, 65-yard drive that took over seven minutes. Instead, he played pitch and catch with his receivers, mostly Robert Woods, kept the chains moving and produced long scoring drives. Of course you'd like those drives to end in touchdowns as opposed to field goals. But I'll take drives of 12, 10. The most notable being Tom Brady but on the other side of the ball the return of Rob Ninkovich will be huge. As much as they put the team in position to win last week, they didn't have a good plan against the Bills and once they saw it wasn't working the adjustments they made, didn't happen until the second half and by then it was too late. We obviously didn't do a good enough job of it. As hard as it was for them to admit they were outplayed by Buffalo's defense, which pitched a shutout Sunday. "He's already been delayed four games so yeah, he'll play".
One example: The Patriots probably won't be calling any option runs for Brady like they did with Brissett in the September 22 victory over the Texans, with Brissett taking it 27 yards for the team's longest scoring run by a quarterback since 1976. When we're going through our meetings, our walk-throughs - and both of them were limited last week in practice to what they could do - the best thing you can do as a coach is try to prepare them to play as they're cleared and have them ready to go mentally.
"We wanted to get out to a fast start so we could play the defense we wanted to", safety Corey Graham said. The Professional Football Writers of America has recognized his work 11 times, including the past two years when he has finished first in column writing.
