Donohue also was critical of emails between Clinton's now-communications director in 2011 and a fellow at liberal think tank Center for America Progress that were mocking and dismissive of Catholics.
"Many of the most powerful elements of the conservative movement are all Catholic (many converts).they must be attracted to the systematic thought and [severely] backwards gender relations", Halpin allegedly wrote.
Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta - whose emails were hacked - was included in the email chain, but did not respond. Halpin remarked on a magazine article that discussed how both 21st Century Fox CEO Rupert Murdoch and "Robert Thompson, managing editor of the [Wall Street Journal], are raising their kids Catholic".
The exchange was revealed this week among thousands of emails disclosed by WikiLeaks.
Podesta added: "I think it will take a call from you to get a formal endorsement ..."
Hillary Clinton's campaign tried to move the IL presidential primary to a later date, saying a contest held after the Super Tuesday primaries might stop momentum for a moderate Republican candidate and emphasizing that Clinton and her husband "won't forget" a political favor, emails made public on Thursday show.
Mr Trump has seized on more than 6,000 emails published so far this week, apparently from the personal Gmail account of Mrs Clinton's campaign chairman, Mr John D. Podesta.
The email has earned scorn from conservative Catholics and the Trump campaign, who hosted a conference call with reporters to blast the Clinton campaign. "Their rich friends wouldn't understand if they became evangelicals". But it's another example of how toxic the Clinton campaign is becoming.
But Joseph Cella, Catholic Liaison to the Trump/Pence campaign, called on Clinton to apologize to American Catholics.
Also citing WikiLeaks, Trump said: "The Department of Justice fed information to the Clinton campaign about the email investigation so that the campaign could be prepared to cover up for her crimes".
While Podesta didn't directly accuse Trump of assisting in any Russian meddling with American campaigns, he suggested Trump was either "willfully ignoring" intelligence officials' warnings about Russian government involvement or "an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation". There are still some Catholic Democrats, but frankly, I am not sure why. "I see no downside in her actually just saying, look, I'm sorry".
