Chaka Khan performs during the "Official Prince Tribute-A Celebration of Life and Music" concert at Xcel Energy Center, on October 13, 2016, in St Paul, Minnesota.
In addition to Wonder and Khan, the three hours of live music slated for the concert were to include performances by Tori Kelly, the R&B ensemble Mint Condition and members of two of Prince's backing bands - New Power Generation and 3rdEyeGirl.
"There'll always be somebody that says, 'Ooh, that sounds real Prince-like, you know what I'm saying? You will be in our hearts forever", POTUS said, according to The AFP.
Just before show time, a concert publicist announced that singer Christina Aguilera canceled her scheduled appearance as she fights a "vocal illness".
"The family is extremely excited to provide an opportunity for the world to participate in the tribute for our brother Prince".
A four-hour memorial concert for Prince finally took place on Thursday night (Oct. 14, 2016) after much ado about scheduling conflicts amid performers.
Before the concert, St Paul mayor Chris Coleman read a proclamation on the outdoor plaza declaring Thursday Prince Day in Minnesota's capital. The song was written by Prince but was a hit for Chaka back in 1984. "It takes time to kind of get over it, and I see that they are grief-stricken", Tyka told The Washington Post.
She said there would "definitely" be future concerts.
According to reports, Aguilera stated that "It is with a heavy heart that I can not perform this evening and join the incredible talent onstage to pay tribute to the legend that was Prince. I think what Prince wanted to do is make sure that people's gifts... had a chance to sing", Jones said in a video.
Prince died of an accidental painkiller overdose at the age of 57.
