X-23Rey Izabella (Isabela Moner, yup, they couldn't even come up with a name for her, so they just changed a letter).
And he has a new favourite Brit after working with Sir Anthony Hopkins in the new action blockbuster. While not exactly a household name, Knight directed one of the biggest unsung masterpieces of past year, Kubo and the Two Strings, which uses stop-motion animation and Japanese folklore to tell a wonderfully compelling story.
Enter also Vivian (Laura Haddock), an Oxford University history boffin whose own father left her clues to find a missing staff that, alongside the talisman, is all powerful. Old friends Stanley Tucci and John Turturro pop up, and there's a juicy role for Humans star Gemma Chan, voicing the all-powerful "creator" Quintessa. "You know I am looking forward to in the Bumblebee movie reliving the eighties Transformers and what those kind of cars can look like, so I think that's really fun".
The movie redlines its engines throughout, but none of it works - and at 149 minutes, it feels almost a full hour too long. "Anytime anywhere just let me know". It is about as alive as you'll ever feel.
Despite the "Transformers" movies making less domestically at theaters, they continue to kill it overseas. Indeed, your tolerance for this 149-minute beast will revolve around how many explosions you can endure.
Director Michael Bay went with his signature style of filling the screens with elements that do not necessarily take your attention away from the subject and the lovely computer graphics and effects. But like many of those other big series' that have begun to clog the multiplexes, does the law of diminishing returns mean it's time for the Transformers to lay dormant for a little while? That is concerning, because kids are the ones who are going to support this movie the most and take their parents to the theaters to watch it.
Rated: PG-13 for violence and intense sequences of sci-fi action, language, and some innuendo. This time the film comes up with a storyline so stretched to the breaking point that it gets thinner whenever I try to think of how to describe it: King Arthur, Lancelot, and the rest of round table were helped along in defending Britain because Merlin had found and befriended some shipwrecked Transformers. However, he later changed his mind and chose to make one more film in the successful Transformers franchise!
