Therman says some students thought the shooting was a drill since the school had just practiced a lockdown drill the day before.

Baker said Bellingham schools also have a district resource officer from the Bellingham Police Department.
As reported by the New York Daily News, Sharpe had a YouTube channel under the name of Mongo Walker, which has now been uploaded as an archive by Christine Weston Chandler.
"We thank the many first responders who quickly arrived to protect students, take the suspect into custody, and transport victims", Bishop Daly said.
He dropped it and surrendered to an approaching janitor, Joe Bowen, who ordered him to the ground and held him for authorities, the records said.
Witness said Sharpe entered a classroom with the rifle, sending students running, but had difficulty loading the rifle. The suspect continued to fire down the hallway of the school, striking three more students, but at that point, the suspect's gun jammed.
"That young man gave his life ... to save his fellow classmates", Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich told reporters Thursday.
A mother left her vehicle on Highway 27 in Rockford to run to Freeman High School to find her children Wednesday after a fatal shooting was reported there. The wounded students are all expected to survive.
Another student told KXLY that he was "shook up" from the shooting. Strahan collapsed and Sharpe shot him again in the face.
The gunman then fired on three other students in a second-floor hallway of Freeman High School in Rockford, Washington, Knezovich said.
Caleb Sharpe used a handgun to kill a classmate and wound three others after the rifle malfunctioned, Knezovich said, and the 15-year-old also had several boxes of ammunition.
The Spokesman Review also reported that Sharpe's mother told authorities that her son had written a suicide note a week ago.
One of Sharpe's friends told detectives Sharpe had bragged about owning multiple guns.
After the shooting, a two-lane road into the community of about 500 people near the Idaho border was clogged with vehicles.
