The United Blood Services blood center in Las Vegas has provided almost 200 units of blood and blood products so far to area hospitals treating victims of the recent shooting.
The Blood Bank says there's still always a need for donations here in Alaska to support area hospitals.
Among the many donation centers that are open locally, United Blood Services is also accepting donations from a variety of banks across the USA, and thousands of units of blood are now being transferred to the state, reports said.
A release from the blood center said they received overwhelming support from the Las Vegas community and encourage future donors to schedule an appointment in the upcoming weeks. If people want to make a donation to support the victims, please consider the Las Vegas Victims Fund or the National Compassion Fund.
Thankfully, many have already answered the call as residents by the hundreds have started lining up at local blood banks.
Staff tell us that the Taco Bell on Moana has donated food to people who are waiting in line to give blood.
Boulder's Bonfils center is located at 3113 28th St.
But it said it always needs support for the almost 64,000 other disasters it responds to around the country every year. People have been rushing to donate blood, but it's not just something that's needed at a moment of crisis.
"I couldn't give money so the best thing that I could offer is my blood, and I have plenty of that", Blue said.
"Whole blood is not used very often, not as often as the components, so you could save three lives with one donation".
